#211 In which Howard Roark seethes with envy

This was a headline in today’s New York Times: “Trump’s Relentless Self-Promotion Fosters an American Cult of Personality.” I was never a journalism student myself, so I guess I missed that class where they covered belaboring the obvious. The latest here, of course, is the man of wealth and taste going for putting the Trump sign over Dulles Airport and Penn Station. Ordinarily one accomplishes great things in one’s life and, after passing, the populace honors you by giving your name to various sorts of monuments. The M of W & T, perhaps knowing that this sure ain’t a-gonna happen, is doing the job himself. 


Other items of recent note: The Trump Administration is removing signs in a Philadelphia house that point out that George Washington was a slaveholder. Removing any mention of Washington’s slaveholding status will, apparently, make him not a slaveholder. That clears that little mess up. After solving racism, the Administration went after the LGBT community and took down the Pride flag at the Stonewall National monument. Whew! Thank God that violent attacks on NYC gays never happened. (It’s since gone back up.) Meanwhile, the Golden TrumpPhone, the once-it-was-made-in-America-but-now-it-isn’t technological marvel, still doesn’t seem to be being made at all, but there has been some movement on that front, and Gizmodo says: “It looks as bad as it sounds.” And then there’s TMOW&T’s Director of Election Security and Integrity, Kurt Olsen, who is—guess what—a rabid 2020 election denier. Talk about the right man for the job! And Kristi Noem, herself a well-beloved champion of election security and integrity, has announced that she wants to limit voting to “the right people.” We can deal with that. At least having an ICE agent in the voting booth with us will give us someone to talk to during the process. And finally, on the light side of the news, Elon Muskrat has apparently learned that his plan to go to Mars—please Elon, go to Mars, we’re begging youwas idiotic, so now he’s focusing on building satellite catapults on the moon. Will he be financing this with the profits from Tesla?

Trump’s visit to the UK was the usual collection of press conference blathering and warnings that the windmills are attacking the whales and remarking in surprise how well all the natives speak English, but it also brought us the proof of what hitherto had only been common chitchat: the man cheats at golf. You can see all the common chitchat with a simple Google search, and most of it is pretty entertaining, but you can also now see a video of a caddy earning his princely tip by conveniently dropping a fresh ball away from the rough so the Chief Executive can get a clear shot of it. A couple of things about this are notable. First, Trump himself doesn’t do the actual ball manipulation; he has his caddy do it for him. And second, he cheats at golf in Scotland. Scotland! This is like eating Kraft Macaroni and Cheese in Italy, or not eating poutine in Canada. It is an insult to the core essence of the country. #162 In which Cocoapo Kracie Tokishakuyaku Powder Tablets remain questionable

Any suggested limit on firearms, maybe things like universal background checks, turn our thinking and praying politicians into raging action heroes. However, the Trump administration, the last people you would expect to take our guns from our cold dead hands, is considering—FINALLY—a ban, albeit limited, on firearms. They are looking at making America great again by banning transgender folks from owning firearms.   Oliver Clothzoff, from this year’s Great British Baking Show was unavailable for comment.
